Top 6 Picnic Spots in Canberra

Picnics are a great way to see a city, spend time with friends, or have an inexpensive celebration.

After living in Canberra for over a decade, I went on many picnics in many different locations. Some were with groups of friends or family, and some were dates with my partner.

I found that there are plenty of undiscovered or underrated places in Canberra with beautiful scenery where you could enjoy a picnic.

Packing for South East Asia + Printable Packing List

When trying to figure out what to pack for my trip of 6 weeks to South-East Asia, it was very hard to find any packing lists. There are plenty for Europe and America, but only a few for South-East Asia. In particular, there’s barely anything for countries like Cambodia.

My 6 week trip would primarily be in Cambodia, but I was also going to have a stop over in Kuala Lumpar, and possibly go to Vietnam and Thailand. I expected that it would be hot over there, but I also had to prepare for the cold weather in Australia for my departure and arrival back in the country.

So the question remained – what do I pack?

Highlights of my trip to Darwin

In mid-May I went for a girls trip to Darwin. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed Darwin – the warmth, the laid back attitude and of course the activities!

I had never been to Darwin before but a friend had moved up there and created a huge list of things to do while we were there. Here is my list of highlights during that trip that I would recommend other people do and would definitely do again myself.

Litchfield Day Trip from Darwin

When visiting Darwin in the Northern Territory, yo know you’re in for a treat of fair drinkim Aussie culture. There’s usually two things on the top of the list of must see sights – jumping crocodiles and Litchfield National Park. Crocodiles are definitely in abundance in Darwin, and you do not want to run into them in an unconctrolled environment (such as Crocodylus Park or Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise) so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to safely see crocodiles.

When you’re not watching the crocs, you definitely should be checking out the local natural wonders. So Litchfield National Park is a must see when in Darwin. Despite the fact that you have to drive out of Darwin to see the beautiful natural wonders, it’s actually fairly easy to get from Darwin to Litchfield National Park – and totally worth it!

There’s plenty of beautiful winery regions in Australia and there’s usually many on travellers wishlist to explore. The Yarra Valley has to be one of those winery destinations that you have to see. Its a short drive from Melbourne so easy for people to get to. The Yarra Valley definitely is the perfect romantic getaway location, with lots of wineries, cafes, spas, retreats and activities to do as a couple.

Enlighten Canberra & Night Noodle Markets

Anyone who says that Canberra has nothing to do is someone who is seriously mistaken. I know I keep saying this, but seriously there has been so much on lately: one weekend was the Canberra show, then the multicultural festival, then Enlighten… And these are just the “big” events.

These big events are some of my favourite things to do in Canberra. Enlighten was an event I hadn’t yet experienced so I was really keen to

Exploring Gibraltar Falls Canberra

There’s many reasons I love living in Canberra. It’s like a big country town, but with everything you get in a city – from boutique shops to malls and outlets, quirky cafes to classy restaurants, events like Fashfest and Floriade, and so much more!

A lot of people from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane say that it’s a boring place to live, but that is far from the truth. One of the reasons I love Canberra is because there is such a variety of things to do on the weekend and week nights.

One of those things you can do is explore the natural beauty of the nations capital. People are often amazed at all the beautiful natural wonders they can find only a short distance from the heart of the city. A favourite place of mine is Gibraltar Falls.
