Legally Pink and Blonde

For those who don’t know what my full time job is, I am a lawyer.

Yes, a real lawyer. One that gives legal advice and goes to court. That kind of lawyer.

Not everyone has believed that I am a “real lawyer”. I think it’s because I have a positive and bubbly personality, and I love all things pink and girlie. I suppose that I don’t fit the standard “lawyer” persona.

Sweet Dusty Rose

Sometimes you buy a clothing item that you just fall in love with. It suits you, your style and you can wear it to many different occasions.

Maybe its your favourite pair of jeans. Or a blazer that always makes you feel like a boss lady. Whatever it is, everyone should have something in their wardrobe that they love and makes them feel amazing.

Polka Dots and Wine Tasting

Back in October 2015, went on a wine tour with some of the people in my office. It was lots of fun and I got to meet lots of people in my field of work.

Like many other events, I spent a lot of time planning my outfit. I jumped on to Pinterest for some inspiration and of course developed an outfit idea through Polyvore:

Spring wine tour outfit

The great thing about my Polyvore inspiration was that I could visualise exactly how my outfit would come together. And I ended up creating this whole outfit!

I bought the same cute vintage inspired dress off Rosegal. It had lots of small polka dots on a pale blue cotton fabric. It was a length that was long enough for a work related activity, and it really showed my vintage sense of style. Being outdoors and a sunny day, I knew that I should bring along my beige felt hat. I added my favourite Forever New handbag and my super comfy white cork wedge shoes to finish off the vintage inspired look for the day.

Casual Weekend Tartan

Tartan print is back with a bang! Maybe it’s because of hipsters with the casual cool look? Or maybe it’s just because it’s so damn easy to style? Either way, I love it and glad that there are plenty of tartan, plaid, flannelette and check prints around this season.

The trick to wearing any one of these prints is in not making it look grandma-ish or like pjs. So if you are new to wearing this print, definitely don’t go for the all tartan look. I would say the best way to style tartan, plaid, check or flannelette is in a casual outfit, for example with jeans.

This is where my photos come in. I hope the below photos show you a classy and stylish way to casually wear this print.

When I saw this tartan flannelette shirt on I knew I had to purchase it. It’s a great combination of colours: bright red, navy blue and white. These three colours can be styled easily – you can mix and match it with colours in that palette, as well as other neutrals such as black, grey and even beige. It can also work with silver and gold too.

I also purchased the jeans at the same time that I purchased the shirt. I really needed some new black jeans and it’s so hard to find jeans at the moment that aren’t the ripped denim style! So I jumped on purchasing these jeans as soon as I saw them.

At first I felt a bit wary about buying jeans online without trying them on first, but Showpo use this new Touch Payment system which means you can buy now, pay later. I can pay anywhere up to 16 days after ordering them, with the option of returning the item or even extending the due date for the payment of the clothes. That means that if the jeans didn’t fit, I could return them without having to worry about the hassle of waiting for a refund.

These jeans turned out to fit me perfectly and I’ve pretty much been living in them ever since! The tartan shirt has also had a few wears since purchase.

I recently wore the combination of the shirt and jeans tartan for some casual weekend activities. I did feel a little bit hipster in my tartan shirt and skinny jeans ensemble. But I kept it girly with my beaded necklace, my felt hat and ballet flats.

Step Back in Time: Black and White Barbie Girl

I had lots of fun doing my photo shoot in Vintage Barbie’s signature outfit.

Even though it was freezing cold outside and the wind didn’t always agree with my clothing or hair, it was still nice to get out and do a shoot in a dress I have loved since I first saw it.

I thought that it would be very appropriate to share some black and white photos of this shoot as well – it really makes me feel like I’m stepping back in time!

For all the details on my outfit, go to my She’s a Lady post.

Feelin’ Peachy

The midi skirts have been such a big trend this year. And I have been loving this trend!

Midi skirts are so versatile and there’s so many fantastic styles and prints available. The full skirt style is great for someone like me who wants something that skims over the bum, hips and thighs. It’s very feminine and pairs nicely with a variety of different tops.

My favourite midi skirt is one I purchased when in London this year. I went into Primark, a store I had never heard of before, and I was blown away with how many great items were in this store. The best part was that every item was completely affordable!

The peach coloured skirt I bought has been a staple in my wardrobe ever since. It goes with plenty of different tops. I wore a stripped cropped tee in Paris. A button denim dress tucked in to the skirt in Venice, and a plain great tank tucked in when back home. I’ve also got a cute lace crop from Forever 21 that really dresses up the outfit.

Today I decided to try a summer look by pulling an old favourite out of the wardrobe. My Forever New bustier has a beautiful peach coloured hibiscus flower print which matched perfectly with my skirt.

It works well with heels and flats. I’ve worn wedge, pumps, sandals and even sneakers th this skirt. I honestly could go on and on about how versatile this skirt is and how much I love it…

Vintage Barbie at Vintage Canberra

On my way to work yesterday I noticed a big sign on the side of the road: It was advertising the Canberra Vintage event at an old hall in the city over this weekend…I was shocked I hadn’t heard about this earlier!

I decided this was an event I definitely had to attend… After all, how could I be called Vintage Barbie if I didn’t attend vintage events!?

It was a warm and sunny November day in the nations capital… It was really hard to decide on what to wear today! Considering it was a vintage fair I definitely had to wear a vintage style outfit. I decided the lightweight spot dress was effect for a day like today. And to complete the look I added on my pearls, cat eye sunnies and black rose hair clip.
The event had lots of vintage clothes, shoes, bags, millinery, vintage sewing patterns, books and homewards. It also had a vintage fashion competition when I got there. I didn’t enter because I thought I was a little too late and I didn’t wear my original outfit option seen in my Fifties Floral Affair post.
I still liked my spotty dress because I made it look modern-vintage. It’s also nice and light and good for the warmer days. It’s also a great dress to style with a necklace, and my pearl double necklace was the perfect choice for today.
When I got home, we decided to take a few more photos in the shade where it was cooler, because it was waaay to warm to stand outside in that sun today!

Springtime Ballerina

I did ballet as a kid. I loved dancing. But my feet point in and my knees are weirdly shaped, so I could never fully pursue it.

I always liked dressing up like a ballerina though. They are poised and elegant and beautiful. Everything a lady should be. So when I put on this outfit and did my hair using a donut bun, I felt very much like a ballerina. The crop looks like a leotard, the skirt is reminisced of a tutu and of course the flower hair tie keeps my high bun securely in place.

Vintage Sunday Lemonade

I’ve been a bit naughty… I am not supposed to be shopping as I’m trying to use items from my capsule wardrobe. But when I began my shift at Forever New on Saturday I decided I was sick of my white tee and really didn’t like how it looked with my lemon coloured midi skirt. It wasn’t bad… It just wasn’t good… And I don’t want to settle for just ok when it comes to my clothes.

So I bought a few new things… I bought a top, earrings and a headband. I decided the new white top could replace my old white tee, and I think I might also use it in my corporate capsule wardrobe.

I decided to pair it up with my lemon midi skirt for a pin up and vintage twist on a modern look. I am still loving the lemon colours that have been around this spring. This outfit is perfect for a casual Sunday afternoon…

Flashback to Fall Fashion

We don’t call it “fall” in Australia. It’s called Autumn. But for the sake of alliteration I decided to refer to this season as fall.

Now that I’ve got that small matter out of the way, I’m going to speak about a photo shoot I did earlier this year. It was an Autumn fashion shoot that I did in a park in the middle of Canberra City. The leaves had well and truly turned their various shades and were scattered across the ground. The blanket of red, yellow and brown was a perfect backdrop for this kind of shoot, and it was a fun shoot as well!

This first outfit I wore is one of my go to autumn outfits. It’s a simple outfit that can be worn day or night. During the day you could wear this outfit with flats or boots, and at night make it dressier with heels and a long necklace.

I know that I could spend lots on money on an outfit like this, but my budget doesn’t allow me to splurge on clothes. I think that this outfit shows that you can look stylish without spending bucket loads of money – you just have to be smart with your purchases.

This second outfit is another one of my favourite outfits for the cooler months. The dress is a bit thicker than summer dresses so it gives you a little extra warmth in the cooler months. But the beauty of this dress is that it can be worn with or without stockings, and it matches many different jackets and cardigans.
I also love my felt hat with the gold trim. It was perfect for covering up my inch of regrowth! Plus it solves any bad hair day and makes you look super stylish.
