2020 was a bit of a different year for many. Since the pandemic hit, we all have changed our priorities, what we spend money on, and how we live our day to day life.
For me, I had more of a focus on my skincare and I wore less makeup. But I also tried some new brands that I haven’t tried before. There’s lots of great products I tried (and some not so great ones) but I managed to find a few new favourites in 2020.
2020 may be over, but I wanted to share what got me through this unique year.
Here are my top hair, beauty and makeup products of 2020
Garnier Fructis Papaya Hair Food $11.95
When I went into lockdown, my hair was already suffering. I was meant to be getting my hair done just as we were locked down. So I had to buy something to repair my hair when there was no known end to lockdown.
I started using this in lockdown as it was cheap and I thought I may as well give it a go. I used it in the shower after washing my hair, making sure I combed through the product with my shower comb. I left in my hair for a few minutes.
Once I washed it out, my hair felt a lot smoother and healthier. Now I know this could be because of the silicone in the product, but I continued to use it throughout 2020 and my hair did seem to feel a lot healthier with less split ends. Which was great as I wasn’t doing too much to look after my hair!
Lime Crime Fuchsia Unicorn Hair Conditioner – $23.95
Like many people in lockdown, I decided to change my hair colour to something very different compared to my normal colour. I had always wanted to have pink hair, so a wash out colour was a great option for me.
This conditioner was surprisingly more colourful than I expected. It also lasted for quite some time, and when it faded with each wash, it faded nicely into a peachy light pink.
I found the conditioner was not drying and left hair feeling nice too.
The only thing is the conditioner stained my scalp and hands (and bathroom tiles) and did not wash off easily. It was worth it for the vibrant colour though!
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara – $35
This is a great mascara as it’s lightweight and does not get gluggy or clumpy. It glides on and gives lashes length while looking more natural. I always found this easy to remove with just makeup wipes, which is really good.
I really like using this every day and also for special occasions. I find it works well if you apply fake lashes afterwards too, whereas some mascaras can really stand out and make the fake lashes more obvious.
Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid Lipstick in Lulu – $27
I am probably a bit late to the party with Lime Crime products, but it’s better late than never… I only just discovered their liquid lipsticks during lockdown and I’m now hooked!
The liquid lipsticks are very smooth and moisturising, unlike brands like Kylie Cosmetics. I found even when I had chapped lips, this lipstick went on smoothly and my chapped lips didn’t show through – yay!
I loved the colour Lulu – I constantly used this colour throughout 2020 because it was a nice colour that was almost a natural or nude colour. It goes with all different types of eye makeup so it’s found paired in a lot of my posts on Instagram!
Morphe Arch Obsessions Eyebrow Kit – $27
Although this comes as a five piece kit, there’s only three things I love and use regularly in the kit. I don’t really care for the brow setting gel or the highlighter stick. However, the brow cream is great, as is the brow pencil. They both on well and stay on throughout the day.
The brow cream has a creamy texture and you don’t need much to achieve a full looking brow. Sometimes I only use the cream to get the brows I want, or if I’m in a rush. Then using the pencil is great for filling in fine hair-like lines to creat a natural but full looking brow.
I also didn’t have an angled brush that was as fine as the one in this kit. This brush is perfect for brows and for the brow cream.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid – $12.90
If you’ve read my review on The Ordinary products, you would know this was my favourite product from the range. It’s lightweight watery formula leaves skin hydrated and feeling more plump.

I use this product in the morning after I was my face, and apply it before moisteriser. I have stocked up on more of this product in 2020 as I loved how it left my skin. It’s now a regular product and part of my skincare routine.
I’m constantly recommending this to people because it’s budget friendly and worth every cent.
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream – $72 for 240ml or $32 for 75ml
Although this product is not budget friendly, it’s worth the money. I’ve been using the smaller tub for most of 2020, and I find I only need a small amount of this rich, cream product.
The main benefits are that it’s meant to be for brightening and tightening skin. I’ve been using it mainly on my belly and boobs during pregnancy, and so far it’s been giving me good results. I’ve also used it on my legs after shaving and it leaves them silky smooth.
Plus it smells a bit like vanilla ice cream. So it’s a delicious smelling, yet satisfying experience using this product.
Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Body Oil – $8.99
I have been loving using this product, especially during pregnancy. I’ve been using it every day after my morning shower. I’ve found it’s a great stretch mark preventer without the hefty price tag.
It’s got a great smell, leaves my skin feeling silky smooth, and smells great too.
Kate Somerville EfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash – $58
This is a really good product that helps clean skin, but leaves it feeling fresh. It is non drying too, which is good for someone like me who washes their face in the shower (I know I’m not supposed to, but I do anyway). This is one of those products that I didn’t specificially search for but I’m glad I stumbled across it.
I love that I don’t need much product to use this one either, which means even though it’s not cheap to buy, it lasts a long time. I have a 50ml tube for travel (or for when I used to go to the gym in the morning) which is really handy too.
Garnier SkinActive Hydra Bomb Tissue Face Mask – $5.99
It feels like sheet face masks are all the rage right now. I love them and it’s been really nice using this product in lockdown. It’s nice being able to semi “treat yourself” while not being able to actually go out.
I have used the Garnier brand of masks a few times, and I found this one has been my favourite. I find other hydrating masks can be a bit sticky or have an odd smell. But with the Garnier Hydra Bomb, it’s got a pleasant smell and good consistency.
I used this before bed to make sure I could rub in all the product after I’ve done my set time to make sure I get the most of the product. I also like doing it just before bed as it really soaks in overnight and I wake up with a hydrated face!
Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Spray – $8
This was a late edition as I only discovered this in December, but I love this product. It’s a great citrus cocktail summary smell and more unique than the typical coconut summer smells I usually gravitate towards.
It’s in a sturdy spray bottle so I can chuck into my handbag and spritz myself during the day if I’m out.
It’s also super cheap and makes a great gift (I may have gifted it to a few people over Christmas…)
