The Brunswick Whey Cheese Shop in Melbourne

I have some big news: I am no longer a Canberran! I have moved to the lovely state of Victoria and now live in Melbourne!

I have always loved coming to visit Melbourne, so when the opportunity arose for me to move to Melbourne, I was very happy to move.

One we had set up our new home, we wanted to explore as much of Melbourne as we possible could before returning to work after the summer break.

A few friends had also moved to Melbourne shortly before us and love in the trendy suburb of Brunswick. We decided to catch up with our friends at a spot they knew quite well.

Down the wide alleyway of Sparta Lane you will see some chairs and tables set up under some trees. Then you will see two perfect pairings next door to each other: The Brunswick Whey and The Brunswick Wine Shop.

The Brunswick Whey is a great little cheese specialty shop. You can also grab a cheese toastie here as well!

The owner Cleo is passionate about cheese and will take whatever time is necessary to talk to customers about their individual cheese needs.

Whether it’s something creamy, something bitey, something sweeter or something a bit more unique, you’ll definitely find what you want here.

Cleo made up a delicious cheese platter for five of us to share while drinking wine. She also came out to explain the different cheeses, meats and sides to our group.

The cheeses were definitely some of the best cheeses I have ever tasted. In fact, the creamy blue cheese was a hit amongst the group. Even my partner (possibly the worlds pickiest eater) tried the blue cheese and said it was his favourite!

I also loved that we could sit here and eat cheese while enjoying a glass of wine (or a sneaky bottle) from the Brunswick Wine Shop next door. The wines here are a nice selection of unique and artisan wines. This wine shop is the type of place that you can go to and have a chat to the owner, Alex, and find something as if you were talking to a close friend.

As it was a Friday night, I tried 4 different wines. I tried a Muscat, a Shiraz, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a white wine that I think was a Riesling… unfortunately I didn’t take note of the brands of wine though…

I would definitely recommend heading to Sparta Place and having a glass of wine and some nice cheese!

Have you been to The Brunswick Whey or The Brunswick Wine Shop? Can you recommend some great cheese and wine places in Melbourne? Let me know in the comment section below!
