Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t shy away from a theme – I’ll take any excuse to get dressed up! And I definitely love any period theme, especially because it’s super easy to grab something out of my every day wardrobe to wear.
Earlier this year I went to the ACT Young Lawyers Ball which was themed “Casablanca” for their 2016 event. For those who are unfamiliar with the movie Casablanca, it is an iconic vintage movie set in the 1940s. So I was very excited to get dressed up in 1940s style fashion.
This years Young Lawyers ball was held at the Australian War Memorial. It fit in with the theme and was surprisingly a really nice place to go for a function. I never knew that the War Memorial had a function space to it!
We got to drink champagne, get henna tattoos done, consistently play in the photo booth, and have a delicious three course dinner. Dinner was under the old war planes hanging above us. The only problem was the chairs were very short, fold up chairs. They looked nice with the black chair covers, but it was pretty uncomfortable. We also felt slight uneasy with the fact that we were drinking around our memorabilia from our war veterans.
Despite that, it was fun night (albeit being accused of property damage the following week, but that’s another story). Here’s some pictures of my outfit:
