This post is being published a little later than I originally planned but I guess it's better late than never!
Skyfire is the annual fireworks display in Canberra down by Lake Burley Griffin. There is a “soundtrack” of the latest pop music made to match the fireworks played by the local radio station. Down by Commonwealth Park, there is usually live music performances on Stage 88, a few fighter jets flying around the lake, and the radio hosts giving some live commentary and comic relief as well.
It's a great fun event – people usually get there sometime in the afternoon to set up their picnic blanket, food and drinks. You are actually allowed to bring food and drink to this event is which is great! It's a family friendly event so there will be groups of people from all ages and backgrounds.
We had a variety of chips, dips, and my friends home made chicken skewers! We also brought along our esky, some wine and beer.
I love going to Skyfire and (conveniently) it usually falls on or around my birthday. I must be pretty special for there to be fireworks for my birthday every year! 😉
Skyfire is also a fantastic time for photographers to practice their skills. I took this opportunity to finally use my DSLR in capturing fireworks. I think I did a pretty good job.
Unfortunately there were trees that cut off some of my photos. I'm undecided on whether they made the photos better or if it ruined the photos by obstructing the image.
